In the original Noddy stories, Noddy had friends who were golliwogs. 

I love Golliwogs, and though I understand their vaguely racist origins, I don’t quite see how something so cute can be found so offensive. My parents have a really lovely set of golliwog-patterned mugs and a matching toast rack and they are, out of all the things they own (including some very pretty, rare or expensive things), I think in my top three to steal from them if I got the chance.
